The Boy has been dragging a bug of some kind for a while. Last night
his temperature was up and he was clingy and would not settle in his
own bed. When he did eventually go to sleep I knew for sure where
George Lucas got the sound effects for Darth Vader's mask from, my
little boy's mixture of heavy breathing through the mouth and snoring.
Him Indoors claims he could hear it from the next room.

In the morning the temperature was back to normal and all he complained
about was the sniffles, so I sent him to school with instructions to
plod on and if it got too bad to go see the welfare officer.

What I hadn't banked on was his temperature rising again and the
school's secretary giving me a lecture on how I really shouldn't not
have sent him to school when he was clearly too ill for it (well he
wasn't first thing in the morning - he did not even look unwell enough
to warrant a dose of junior paracetamol). Anyway I took him home and he
has enjoyed being nursed by mummy for the day.

On the plus side, he now feels well enough to sleep in his own bed tonight. Sleep is a wonderful thing.

On the minus side it means I have watched too much daytime television
today while he was clinging to me on the sofa most of the afternoon.
Now I am trying to work out which advert annoyed me the most, my top 2
are the crazy frog ringtune advert and and advert for some
leaflet/website about lowering your cholesterol which is bad on many
levels. It is bad firstly because it doesn't work (I don't remember the
name of the product despite seeing it a number of times today) and it
is bad because it makes me want to shout at the screen when it gets to
the bit about the recommendation for cholesterol levels being less than
5. 5 what? saussages, km/h, tonnes? I expect they mean 5 mmol/l but
then why not say it? I know advertisers are not scientists but surely
even they did enough math and science at school to know that the figure
without a unit of measure next to it means absolutely nothing (unless
the figure is 42 of course).

Long time no blog

Not much has happened, The Boy recovered but because he is a sharing,
caring little boy he passed his bug onto me. I got throught the
week-end with much help from the good fairy aspirin.

While I was feeling sorry for myself and Him Indoors was revising for
his exams the garden took a life of its own, ironing which had been
left to pile up with a view to be tackled at the week-end multiplied
and grew to Everest proportions and the house is looking worse than
ever.

My parents are coming at the end of the week - to coincide with The
Boy's return from his father's house and they are bringing my niece
with them. I should be toddler-proofing the house - which to be honest
is almost mission impossible -  instead, I have been tending the
garden, playing with the cat and looking at the bumble bees collecting
pollen again.

If you want to see why I can watch bumble bees for hours have a look at this set of garden pictures. I hope you find the little creatures as fascinating as I do.
