Late Welsh 3,000s update They did not quite make it. The bad visibility and weather got the better of them. This view of Crib Goch is almost persuading me that it is a good idea to go and give Snowdon a go myself, and then I remember that I am not particularly good with heights and that a this is a ledge heavily travelled in both direction while it is only wide enough for one person. If you follow the flickr link to the full size you can make out the silhouette of other walkers, the picture was taken at sunrise, any later and there are queues. As I was saying they did not get to "do" all 15 peaks, still I think their stats are impressive considering they made a slight detour (due to a slight navigation mishap in the rain). So here we go for the bragging bit: 7 peaks (Crib Goch, Garnedd Ugain, Snowdon, Glidir Fawr, Y Garn, Glyder Fawr and Glyder Fach); 2,200m ascent and 27.5 km in 13 hours. |

The video meme A while back Daisy tagged me and sent me on a mission to find a video from my teenage years. I got distracted along the way, what with having a week off before starting the new job and all that and The Boy still being at school (trips into town, cycle ride, breakfast in Chelsea, Tooting Bec Lido, Regents Park, lunch with a liquid element you know that sort of thing). Anyway I a catching up a bit so here we go (and lets see if the new platform/interface/whatever lets me embed an object and if all else fails here's the link to the vid on YouTube). The video is L'aventurier byFrench band Indochine complete with cheap keyboards and naff lyrics. Dérivant à bord du Sampang Before you ask, yes I did like the song very much and danced to it (I was 13 give me a break!). Ok I'll admit it, I still like it and it is on my ipod and gets played occasionally and no I won't tell you how many times it has been played. If you want to see all about the skeletons in my music closet you'll have to show me yours first. If you want to join in the video hunt consider yourself tagged (Fimb? Want to give it a go? I bet yours is less embarrasing than this one and there is nothing like a big hunk of cheezy tune to lift the spirits.) |

ouch! Good idea: making mock jam* with the latest crop of strawberries which has ignored too long to make a presentable pudding as they are. Bad idea: setting the timer when bringing it to the boil and leaving it alone. Even worse idea: when returning to spitting fruit/sugar mixture and slightly burnt pan bottom choosing to proceed with pouring it in the prepared jars rather than rinsing off the splatters of jam from arm/hands/thumb. *a lot less sugar then proper jam, not too worried about it setting or keeping, the aim is more for something with a strong strawberry flavour to put on cereals rather than jars of preserve to last through the winter. |

An idea to recycle for the olympics? Via Faux Rebonds whose choice of message is on the picture below. The Mayor of Paris is giving the French supporters a chance to have their messages of support plastered all over town by using this page before Sunday 1600hrs.

Au feu les pompiers les bagels qui brulent I maintain that technically it doesn't count as burning dinner if it didn't set off the smoke alarm and if i'm the only one to have smelt the smoke. It's merely a last minute menu change. |

So how do you explain to your friends and relatives that yes he is a great stepdad and caring boyfriend but that after nearly 8 years together you've decided to call it off? |

A small kind of magic Email and IM are wonderful things, especilly in conjonction with the people you can rely on (thanks chaps). When the going gets tough and it's too hot for the tough to go baking. When friends and confidants are too far to just pop round for a cup of tea, there's email to exhange the latest piece of info. An email conversation about the lastest favourite tune of the moment is almost like plugging headphones in each other's ipod on a tube journey. When the phone is out of the because let's face it I'm not the best person to speak to on the phone at the best of times so it will be more like torture than comfort when I'm feeling a bit bleurgh, IM comes to the rescue as a friend responds to the request to do that thing that makes me smile and want to giggle everytime and dutifuly pulls out the ** to surround the magic sentence that brings up the funniest silly thing that somebody can ever do with the most deadpan delivery (I don't want to describe it, it wouldn't do it justice). Even accross the screen it's easy to picure it perfectly, a year and a half after I first saw it it is still hillarious and it makes me feel special that sombody would do something silly over and over just to make me feel good. The link may be virtual but the comfort is real.
