We went on a bear hunt The weather was kind enough to stop acting like it's November rather than July long enough to take The Boy camping in the New Forest . I packed better than usual and remembered pretty much all the essentials and except for running out of matches by Sunday morning and forgetting to take the directions to the campsite we didn't do badly.  On the other hand I forgot to take the camera so you won't see (well some of it you could go see for yourself): Us being  turned away when finding the campsite after all because they had a bit of a flooding problem and being directed to another site. Us putting the tent up in the dark while The Boy was pumping up the mattresses (which earned me much mocking from MFC who believes camping should be hardcore and found my approach to roughing it rather soft and novel - my minimum standard is the availability of hot showers and flushing toilets). The cow with the Mr T haircut. Diddy baby adders, natterjack toads and the day glow green male sand lizard at the reptile centre. Not too bright ponies Countless rabbits The Boy handling his kite like a pro. MFC and me handling the kite not so much like pros and making it come down more than once with a thud. Some classic food charcoaling on the disposable bbq (and the bit MFC and The Boy didn't get to see either where I put the bbq just that little bit too close to the tent because lighting it in the wind was trixy and we were running out of matches). Chinese takeaway picnic before the Tall Trees Trail. The biggest Sunday roast I'd had in a while.
